Lloyd A. Hammersley Jr. 69, of Greenwood, IN passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, IN. He was born October 28, 1947 in Gary, IN to Lloyd A. Hammersley Sr. and Cecelia (Casserella) Hammersley. He married Peggy L. (Harder) Hammersley on June 26, 1965 in Cedar Lake, IN, she survives.
He was a graduate of Lowell High School in Lowell, IN, where he played football, and a graduate of the Purdue University apprenticeship program in engineering. He attended Moody Bible College in Chicago, IL. He was a member of GracePoint Church in New Whiteland, IN. He enjoyed golfing, syfi and spending time with his family. He had been an electrical engineer for U.S. Steel in Gary, IN, and Birmingham Steel in Birmingham, AL, and retiring from Allegheny Ludlum Steel in New Castle, IN after a 40 year career in 2005.
Survivors include his wife Peggy L. (Harder) Hammersley of Greenwood, IN; children Michael L. Hammersley of Shelbyville, IN, Christopher L. Hammersley (Sherri) of Bonfield, IL, Melissa L. Augustson (Darren) of Grant Park, IL, and Mickey L. Hammersley (Theresa) of Indianapolis, IN; his mother Cecelia (Casserella) Hammersley of Cedar Lake, IN; four grandchildren, Devin Augustson and Colin Augustson, both serving in the United States Marines Corps, Marc Hammersley of Germany, and Danielle Hammersley of Bonfield, IL; and two sisters Paulette Banham of Cedar Lake, IN and Jackie Wise of Kankakee, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd A. Hammersley Sr. and brother-in- law Robert Banham.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 1 PM at GracePoint Church, 330 West Whiteland Road, New Whiteland, IN, 46184.
