Obituary for Marcus Edward Gilbert

Marcus Edward  Gilbert
Marcus Edward Gilbert, 84, of Franklin, IN passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 at his residence in Franklin, IN. He was born January 22, 1933 in Clay County, KY to Steven Gilbert and Presha (Revis) Gilbert. He married Clara (Peveler) Gilbert, she preceded him in death in 1983. He then married Karen (Young) Gilbert whom preceded him in death on August 14, 2004 and later married Gwendolyn (Nivens) Gilbert on June 12, 2007, she survives.
He served for 25 years in the United States Airforce serving two tours in the Vietnam War as a navigation engineer aboard the C-130 Hercules aircraft and was a member of the 1000 hour club, he retired in 1977. He later was a maintenance supervisor for Norplex Oak for 19 years. He was a life member of Franklin American Legion Post #205, and attended Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Bargersville, IN. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, R.V. traveling, flea marketing, and attending garage sales.
Survivors include his wife Gwendolyn (Nivens) Gilbert of Franklin, IN; two daughters Donna Sanders (Steve) of Springdale, AK; and Lisa Kaye Robison (John) of Greenwood, IN; four grandchildren Arla Cress, Jacob Roberts, Ryan Roberts, and Brandon Karus; two great-grandchildren Makena Karenann Cress, and Caiden Roberts; Karen’s three children, Gwendolyn’s five children, several step- grandchildren; and several step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives Clara (Peveler) Gilbert and Karen (Young) Gilbert; three brothers John Henry Gilbert, James Gilbert, Marvin Gilbert; four sisters Mallie Gilbert, Virginia Poe, Elizabeth Wagers, and Ida Mae Branstutter.
Pastor Rich Jenkins will conduct a service Friday, August 25, 2017 at 11AM at Swartz Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 4-7 and Friday from 10AM till service time at the mortuary. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood with full military honors conducted by the United States Air Force and Franklin American Legion Post 205.
