Obituary for
George W. Harrell
George W. Harrell, 81, lifelong resident of White River Township, Bargersville, passed away Tuesday at his residence in Bargersville.
He was born on May 7, 1936 at the family farm in White River Township to George Everett Harrell and Winona Pauline (Koons) Harrell.
He was a 1954 graduate of Center Grove High School and a graduate of the agriculture short course at Purdue University. He was a lifelong farmer and sheep shearer in the White River Township community along with his family which owned and operated Lone Pine Farms on State Road 135 and Smokey Row Road. He had been president and vice president of Mid States Wool Growers. He had been a sheep and wool judge for all but two counties in the state of Indiana, also judging in California, Illinois and Ohio. He was a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau and former member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church at Stones Crossing. He had also been a 4-H leader for the Sodbusters 4-H group. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.
Survivors include his wife Carol M. Ross of Bargersville, sister Dorthy A. Harrell of Trafalgar, brother John R. Harrell (Kathy) of Nineveh, stepdaughter Sharon Annette Vice (Joe) of Greenwood, nephews Richard Harrell (Dawn) of Noblesville, David Harrell (Sunshine) of Bargersville, Crystal Adams (Steve) of Greenburg, Mike Harrell (Pam) of Columbus, two step grandchildren Chris Vice (Ashley) of Whiteland, Julie Canter (Mike) of Indianapolis, seven step great grandchildren, four great nephews and two great nieces, sister in law Linda Harrell of Greensburg, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carol K. Harrell on March 20, 2016.
A service will be conducted Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 4-8PM at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
