Obituary for Roy L. McKnight

Roy L.  McKnight
Roy Lawrence McKnight 95 of Franklin, Indiana passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin, Indiana. He was born April 20, 1921 in Lee county, Virginia to Bethel and Cora (Bush) McKnight. He married Tillie M. (Estridge) McKnight, she preceded him in death on July 23, 2009. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater of the 101st Airborne, 560 Company A where he was a member of the Combat Parachutists having jumped in Normandy and Holland. He received two purple hearts, The Bronze Star, and the Knight of the Legion Honor from the country of France, a Combat infantry badge, Victory medal, American Defense medal, European Eastern African medal (with 2 arrowheads- given for invasion) (and 2 stars- given for combat,) Combat Paratrooper badge, and the Kentucky Colonel. He had worked for the General Motors Chevrolet stamping plant in Indianapolis, IN. retiring in 1980. He was a member of United Auto Workers Union Local #23 in Indianapolis.
Survivors include his sons, Thomas T. McKnight (Sandy) of Franklin, IN. and David Jones (Lynn) of Benham, Kentucky; two daughters, Pam Rumley (Ron) of Gallatin, TN. And Angel Peters (Bill) of Noblesville, IN.; daughter, Jaime (TJ) Robinson of Nashville, TN.; numerous grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Annette McKnight, and 15 brothers and sisters.
A celebration of life service will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville, TN. Celebration will take place on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 2:30pm. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 11:30am- 2:30pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home.
