Mary M. McGinnis (Derleth)
Mary M. (Derleth) McGinnis, 90, of Greenwood, IN passed away Friday, July 8, 2016 at her residence in Greenwood, IN. She was born December 29, 1925 in Indianapolis, IN to George and Margaret (Wagner) Derleth. She married James A. McGinnis on October 21, 1951 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Indianapolis, IN, he survives.
She attended the former St. Catherine of Siena grade school on Indianapolis’s near south-side and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Vincent’s School of Nursing. She served as a nurse at St. Vincent Hospital on Fall Creek in Indianapolis, IN, and was the charge nurse for the medical surgery floor at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, IN, having cared for many patients in her career span. She and Jim were blessed to spend sixty-five years together filled with adventures. She was always one to tell a story or crack a joke on her back porch swing.
She was loved and will be missed by her surviving family, husband James A. McGinnis of Greenwood, IN; sons Greg McGinnis (Linda) of Indianapolis, IN, Gary McGinnis (Debbie) of Greenwood, IN, Kevin McGinnis (Cindy) of Greenwood, IN; a daughter Mary Kay Bishop (Michael) of Greenwood, IN; and she and Jim were also blessed with eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and infant son Donald Joseph McGinnis; a twin sister Martha Riccobono, a sister Catherine Cord; two brothers Clem Derleth and Al Derleth.
Father James M. Brockmeier and Father Gerald Kirkhoff will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 11 A.M. at Saints Francis and Clare Catholic Church, 5901 Olive Branch Road, Greenwood, IN, 46143. The family will receive friends Friday, July 15, 2016 from 9AM till service time at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN.
