Clemmie E. Dawson (Kelsay)
Clemmie Dawson died March 2nd, 2016 in The Woodlands, TX. She was born in Campbellsville, KY on June 16, 1923 and moved to Whiteland, Indiana with her family in 1928. She was a long term resident in Whiteland, Indiana and graduated from Whiteland High School in 1943. After High School Graduation, she married Eugene Paul Dawson on Aug. 4th, 1943 in New Orleans, LA. Clemmie moved to The Woodlands, TX in 2008 to live closer to her daughter and family.
Clemmie was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, IN. She was a member of the Gamma Nu Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. During her career, she went to Patricia Steven’s Modeling School and later became a beautician by trade where she owned Clemmie’s Beauty Shop. She was a pioneer in the beauty industry and opened one of the first Slenderizer shops in Indiana during the first wave of the fitness craze.
Clemmie was preceded in death by son Gene Paul and husband Eugene P. Dawson. She was the last living Kelsay in her family and was preceded in death by seven siblings; Shelby, Mary, Tom, Owen, Dorothy, Lou, and Joe Kelsay. Clemmie is survived by daughter Susan I. Horsley and son-in-law Fred T. Horsley of The Woodlands, TX; five grandchildren, Dixie H. Roberts and Kelsay A. Yerian both of The Woodlands, Texas, Elizabeth M. Layton of Indianapolis, IN, Jennifer L. Watanabe of Redmond, WA., and Aaron T Horsley of Brownsburg, IN; and nine great-grand-children.
Clemmie lived life to the fullest leaving behind many friends who came to love her fiery personality. Clemmie enjoyed traveling across the country antiquing. She spent many years bowling in a League in Franklin, IN with friends. Clemmie loved playing cards of all kinds but her favorite was playing a spirited game of Bridge. Clemmie will be missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
The Reverend Jenothy Rather will conduct a service on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 10:30AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Frankin followed by burial at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
