Orvin Nolen Jr.
Orvin Nolen, Jr., 67, of Greenwood, Indiana passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 13, 1944 in Vanceburg, Kentucky. His father was Orvin Nolen, who preceded him in death, and his mother Gladys (Thacker) Liles of Vanceburg, Kentucky. He married Joyce A. (Gilliam) Nolen on August 3, 1969 in Wise, Virginia; she survives. He retired in 2001 from Teamsters Local 135 as an in-town truck driver for USF Holland after many years of service. He also enjoyed a small landscaping business, enjoyed woodworking, and was a loving, husband, father, and grandfather. He had served in the Kentucky National Guard, was a member of Southport Masonic Lodge #170, Greenwood Moose Lodge, and attended Greenwood Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife Joyce A. (Gilliam) Nolen of Greenwood, Indiana; son Mark A. Nolen of Jackson, Georgia; daughter Amy J. Wolf (Seth) of Greenwood; mother Gladys (Thacker) Liles of Vanceburg, Kentucky; grandchildren Greg Stowers, Mason Nolen, Evan Nolen, Emma Wolf, and Nolen Wolf; sisters Jo Newport (Tom) of Richmond, Virginia and Margaret Stroth (David) of Ashland, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
The Reverend Matt Giebler will conduct a service Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 11:30 A.M. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary And Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, Indiana. Friends may call from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Monday, July 2, 2012 at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, Indiana.
