Obituary for Wanda Joan Murphy (Buckner)

Wanda Joan (Buckner) Murphy, 91, of Franklin, IN, passed away Monday, April 29, 2019 at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community, in Franklin, IN. She was born January 27, 1928 in Bloomington, IN to Lexy Glenn and Lida Viola (Holt) Buckner. She married William Theodore “Ted” Murphy on September 3, 1948 in Bloomington, IN.
Joan was a graduate of Bloomington High School and received her Bachelors and Master’s degree in elementary education from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. She later taught elementary school at several locations including Milburn, New Jersey, Lillian Emery, New Albany, Lawrence Elementary, Lab School Terre Haute, and Hopewell. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, and Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, IN.
Joan was a proud partner in ministry with her husband Dr. Ted Murphy to several United Methodist Churches.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. William Theodore Murphy; two sons William David (Wanda) and Charles Robert Murphy (Elizabeth); and a daughter Carol Ann Thorne (David); eight grandchildren, Laura Koenig (Jonathan), Mark Koenig (Katie), Christina Koenig, Adam Thorne, Ryan Murphy, Kate Mazelin (Jeffrey), Amy Grover (William), and Anne Cannon (Steven); 7 great-grandchildren; and a brother Kenneth Buckner (Oma).
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister.
Reverend Dr. Joseph Trueblood, Reverend Jenothy Irvine, and Chaplain David Mark Owens will conduct a service on May 4, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Wright Chapel of Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community, 1070 West Jefferson Street, Franklin, IN, 46131. Friends may call on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday May 4, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. until service time both at the Wright Chapel at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
