Obituary for R. Gordon Brown

R. Gordon Brown, 80, of Franklin, IN passed away Monday, April 22, 2019 at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born July 21, 1938 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN to Raymond Chalmers Brown and Sara E. (Spargur) Brown. He married Sandra J. (Justice) Brown on February 10, 1962 at Tabernacle Christian Church in Franklin, IN, she preceded him in death on April 24, 2012.
Gordon graduated from Franklin Community High School in 1956. He was a United States Army Veteran from 1957 until 1959, spending 18 of those months at the NATO Headquarters in Paris, France. In 1960 he started his career at Franklin Bank and Trust retiring in 1991 as Sr. Vice President of Consumer Loans. During his “semi-retirement” years, he worked at Holbrook Manufacturing and Bradley Chevrolet. He was a 49 year member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #107, 52 year member of the Franklin American Legion Post #205, and a 54 year member of the Franklin Elks Lodge #1818. He enjoyed golf outings and time with his high school classmates, his daily breakfast club, watching any kind of sport on TV, attending his grandchildren’s events, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his daughter Deb Brown-Nally (Tony) of Franklin, IN; a son Stephen Brown of Franklin, IN; grandchildren Mark Nally, Brad Nally, Sara Brown, and Alivia Brown and Sara and Alivia’s mother Anji Brown all of Franklin, IN; and a sister Betsy Wanko (Joe) of Noblesville, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a brother David Brown.
A service will be conducted on Friday April 26, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Thursday April 25, 2019 from 4-8PM at the mortuary where Franklin Masonic Lodge #107 will conduct a Masonic Service at 8PM. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by Franklin American Legion Post #205. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Franklin Elks Lodge 1818 Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 354, Franklin, IN, 46131.
