Obituary for Esther Elizabeth Stewart (Asher)

Esther Elizabeth (Asher) Stewart, 96, of Needham, IN, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 at Otterbein Franklin Seniorlife Community. Esther was born May 31, 1922 in Johnson County, IN to Christopher and Clara (Tucker) Asher. She married Roy Stewart on September 23, 1939. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1975.
Esther, more commonly known as Mam-Mam by her grandchildren and family friends alike, enjoyed living on the farm, gardening and cooking. She especially loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son Michael Stewart (Alice) of Franklin, IN; daughter-in-law Elaine Stewart of Franklin, IN; grandchildren David Stewart (Teresa) and Lisa Hampton (Dan) of Needham, IN, Tom Stewart (Resa) of Franklin, IN, Libby Duke (Steve) of Bargersville, IN, and Katie Haste of Clarksville, Tennessee. Esther is also survived by great-grandchildren Jennifer Stewart-Burton (Jake), Matthew Stewart, and Justin Kaiser (Sarah) of Needham, IN, Justin Haste of Martinsville, IN, Logan and Lane Duke of Bargersville, IN, and Case Stewart of Franklin, IN; as well as great-great-grandchildren Easton Kaiser, Lane Kaiser, Dalton Kaiser and Elizabeth Burton.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by son Billy Stewart; a sister Dorothy Hubbard; brothers James Asher, Lester Asher, Bill Asher, Charles Asher, Robert Asher, Henry Asher, Virgil Asher, Gene Asher and Christopher Asher.
Reverend Gerald Holmes will conduct a service on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Friends may call at the mortuary from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Second Mt.
