John Hill -real name , Jerry Valiant and The Stomper -Professional wrestling monickers . I was very Blessed to have gotten the chance to work with Sir Jerry aka John , as I was one of the bookers/promoters for the 2005 Valiant Brothers Reunion in NJ where we booked Jerry, Johnny and Jimmy Valiant together for the first time in 25 years as the Valiant Brothers reunited. Spending time that weekend in March of 2005 with Jerry, I learned that he was originally from and lived in Indiana which is where I was born and raised. We had that in common. we also had the fact that both worked with Jimmy Valiant and Jerry Valiant in common. As I was trained and certified as a Professional wrester under Jimmy Valiant and as The Night Ninja I was managed by Johnny Valiant on multiple occasions. Jerry was a great man a humble and sincere human being. He will be Greatly missed by us all. Gone but never forgotten.

I never actually met John (The Stomper) but I must tell you that he gave me hours and hours of entertainment in the wrestling ring back in the 60's and 70's as I grew up in the Detroit area.. I did shake hands with him and get an autograph after he had wrestled in Detroit and found him to be just like his personality was on the microphone and in the ring. I am truly sorry for your loss. He was an amazing man and will be missed. It's ironic that one of his wrestling nicknames was "Gentleman" That is the way I would describe the Stomper (John Hill) All the best...Kevin Murphy

I just found John's obituary this evening as I was searching through the names of wrestlers that I watched when I was a child. First of all, let me say to the family how sorry I am for your loss. I remember John as The Stomper when he wrestled in the 1970's in Detroit. He and his partner Ben Justice were my favourites among a cast of amazing characters that included Pampero Firpo, The Sheik and Bobo Brazil. There was something about "The Stomper's" wrestling ability and charisma that made him stand above all the rest in my eyes. Later when he turned up as Guy Mitchell in Vancouver (we also got All-Star Wrestling on TV in the Sault) he performed with the likes of Gene Kiniski, Don Leo Johnathan and Dutch Savage and became a favourite of mine all over again even before I came to realize that Mitchell and The Stomper were the same person. John provided me with many hours of entertainment in my youth and will, because of that, always be a part of me. Rest in peace John and thank you.

I first met John (Guy Mitchell) when he came to my home town area to wrestle. We loved to hate him as Mr X. When they took that mask off him we all loved to love him as Guy Mitchell. Years later my husband and I were reintroduced to him as Gentleman Jerry Valiant and what a gentleman he was. My husband Ed Moretti and Jerry (John) wrestled a few matches against each other when they both came to California to wrestle for Antone Leone. We spent one of our days off together on Fisherman's Warf in San Francisco, I still have the pictures. What fun we had that day and I'll always remember John as a man who liked to laugh and make jokes, even at himself. We kept in touch over the years, last we spoke on the phone he was Santa Claus at a mall near his home town. He said he LOVED playing Santa. I remember him saying he loved to see the look on the kids faces when they were seeing Santa, sometimes for the first time. I never knew he was sick. I'll always remember him as a very nice man who was devoted to his family. I hope he is at peace so we can all reminisce one day. Peace be with his family at this time of sorrow. Dale & Ed Moretti

i remember him very well. In the late 70's early 80's he would come to allentown pa to wrestle. first with the wwwf, then the fledgling international. i have a lot of memories of those years. he will be missed. God rest his soul and his family.

I am greatly sadden by the news of John‘s passing. As a kid growing up I had the great pleasure knowing him and his family. Growing up down the way from the Hills and being a friend of his son, the Hill family always made me feel welcomed in their home. I recall the story of how our families met, my stepdad was working down the lane from Johns home in Sweetwater, my dad got his vehicle stuck in the mud, and John came to the rescue, asked if he could be of any help. Seen what the situation was and came back with the WWF truck to pull my dad out. Thank you John for being such a gentle giant amongst men, and for being a strong kind soul. Donna VanMeter

I was very saddened to learn of the passing of my friend and traveling partner for many years. Jerry as I'll always remember him was a friend, mentor and all around good guy. Although we lost contact over the years, I still remember him for his wit and jokes he loved to play on other wrestlers. Jerry and I met in the WWA and he helped me get in with WWF in the 80's and we traveled alot together all over the mid west and south. I will always look upon those days with great pleasure. The time that I spent with Jerry I could always tell that he was a real family man and a talented man both in and out of the ring. He could really handle himself for real as the above mentioned Jerry Valiant. I travelled with him to Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the East Coast. I could see the true Canadian in him when there were times I wanted him to act like a New Yorker, but I could detect that's one thing he couldn't do for real, ha, ha. I was one of the promoters of the 2005 Valiant Brothers Reunion where we booked and flew in Jerry Valiant to be part of the convention. We were all so impressed by what a kind gentleman he was and it was great to spend that time with him. I have wonderful memories of the Valiant Brothers at Madison Square Garden and saw Jerry Valiant vs. Bruno Sammartino at the Nassau Coliseum. I am sincerely sorry for the loss of this great wrestler and human being.

I met Guy Mitchell in 1977 when he came to my hometown area to wrestle. The picture I chose from his gallery is one like the one I have that he autographed for me. I still have this picture and I pulled it out to reminice when I heard he had passed . My husband was one of Guy's fellow wrestlers, they wrestled each other on occasion. The last time we saw Guy was in the early 80's when both Guy and Ed were working for Antone Leone in California. We spent some time down at Fisherman's Wharf together, I have pictures from that day that I have always cherished, it was a day of fun as were all the times I can remember having with him. Last time we spoke on the phone was when Guy was working at a mall near his hometown as Santa Claus. He told me he loved that gig so much because of the magic Santa Claus had with the children, he said there was nothing like the look on the children's faces when they stepped up to meet Santa. I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. I will hold on to the memories and I hope we can reminice together again one day. Prayers and strength go out to his family and friends. I worked with John several times over the years as I was booked to referee quite a bit by Tim . He was always very nice and we got along quite well together. I will miss him very much.
