Obituary for John W. Elrod

John W. Elrod, 79, of Greenwood, IN passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the Hearth at Stones Crossing in Greenwood, IN. He was born June 3, 1939 in Indianapolis, IN to Charles Kilmer Elrod and Catherine Ann (Hannaum) Elrod. He married Patricia Rae (Davidson) Elrod on November 12, 1960 in Indianapolis, IN, she survives.
John was a 1957 graduate of Southport High School. He along with his wife Pat founded the Light Gallery in Greenwood, IN in 1976 and operated it until 2012. He previously had been an engineer with Marquette Machinery. He had been a member of the Community Church of Greenwood since 1987, where he had served as an elder. He previously had been a member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church in Stones Crossing, Greenwood.
John lived his life for the Glory of God and a servant of Jesus Christ in his life.
Survivors include his children Anthony B. “Tony” Elrod (Denise) of Fishers, IN, Dawn (Elrod) Cox (David) of Greenwood, IN, and Kim (Elrod) Allen (Adam) of Greenwood, IN., grandchildren Maddison (Elrod) Humphreys (Jordan), Makenzi (Elrod) Price (Dustin), Luke Murphy, Adam Murphy, Courteney M. Cox, Rachel M. Cox, Taylor M. Allen, Katy L. Allen, Ashley G. Allen, Riley F. Allen; great-grandchildren Jayce A. Humphreys and Keegan Price; a brother Gilbert Elrod (Paula) of Englewood, FL; a sister Mary Thomas (Steve) of Indianapolis, IN; and a brother-in-law Jim Cummings of Greenwood, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Judy Curtis, Sue Cummings, and brother in law Dave Curtis.
Pastor Bill Turner will conduct a service celebrating the life of John W. Elrod on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 11AM at the Community Church of Greenwood, 1477 West Main Street, in Greenwood, IN, where the family will receive friends from 10AM till service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions and donations be made to Rock Steady Boxing, a gym that provides boxing classes to men and women fighting Parkinson’s disease at all levels.
