Obituary for Betty L. Skaggs (Chambers)

Betty L. (Chambers) Skaggs, 90, of Franklin, IN. passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Compass Park in Franklin, IN. She was born November 13, 1927 in Indianapolis, IN to Brownlee Chambers and Benevolence (Parker) Chambers. She married Ivan L. Skaggs on June 21, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN, he survives.
Betty was a 1945 graduate of George Washington High School in Indianapolis, IN. She was a homemaker and previously had worked at R.C.A. in Indianapolis, had been a school cafeteria manager for 25 years in the Perry Township School Corporation in Indianapolis, IN at William Henry Burkhart Elementary, Abraham Lincoln Elementary, and Perry Meridian Middle School, and handmade porcelain dolls painting them and creating the dresses alongside her husband. They also had owned and operated Yesterday’s Antique Store in Morgantown, IN. She played music in the Murat Shrine Temple Drum and Bugle Choral.
Miss Betty was a special lady, anything she put her mind to, she accomplished! She was a great wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma. She was an awesome cook, seamstress, and she could line dance, self-taught many musical instruments and the list goes on. She will be missed greatly here on earth, but all those who loved her and knew her will see her again someday.
Survivors include her husband Ivan L. Skaggs of Franklin, IN; three children, Carolyn S. Richards (Gary) of Greenwood, IN, Daniel L. Skaggs of Noblesville, IN, and John A. Skaggs (Valesa) of Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren, Scott Richards (Kelly) of Greenwood, IN, Bethany Hannon (Patrick) of Greenwood, IN, Allison Skaggs of Franklin, IN, Leah Skaggs of Indianapolis, IN, Kyle Skaggs of Indianapolis, IN, Ryan Skaggs (Heather) of Bloomington, IN, and Andrew Skaggs (Jenny) of Noblesville, IN; ten great-grandchildren, Trevan, Tristin, Bailey, Colbie, Sydney, Trace, Serenity, Emma, Benjamin and Laura; several nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Jack Chambers, Blanchard Chambers, Brownlee Chambers Jr., Charles Bechman; and five sisters Elsie Phillips, Juanita Bechman Williams, Annis Smith, Ruth Mulrine, and Aileen Stout. The Southport Chapter #442 of the Order of the Easter Star will conduct a service on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 3PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN, followed by a celebration of life service conducted by Chaplain Elaine Clark. Friends may call from 12 Noon till service time at the mortuary on Saturday, November 10, 2018. A private family inurnment will take place at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN.
