Obituary for Charles Edward Burgess

Charles  Edward  Burgess
Charles Edward Burgess, 81, of Greenwood, IN passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 7, 1937 in Edmonton, KY to Clarence Edward Burgess and Eugenia Marie (Scott) Burgess. He married Joyce C. (Gibson) Burgess on November 1, 1957 at Abundant Life Church in Indianapolis, IN, she survives.
Charles had been a truck driver for Liquid Transport Corporation in Indianapolis, IN for 44 years having driven 4 million miles accident free and where he had worked with the portable safety class room with the company. He received the Indiana Motor Truck Association, Inc. “Driver of the Year” in 1995, and also in recognition of being named Indiana Driver of the Year in 1995, Great West Casualty Company and the Liquid Transport Corporation honored him with the “25 Year Safe Driver” on February 25, 1992. He was a member of Northern Park Baptist Church in Greenwood, Union Village Masonic Lodge #545 in Providence, IN and the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite.
Survivors include his wife Joyce C. (Gibson) Burgess of Greenwood, IN; children Doyle W. Burgess and his wife Tamara (Wesemann) Burgess of Needham, IN, Deborah Lynn (Burgess) Davis and her husband Ronald Davis of Whiteland, IN, and Duane Edward Burgess and his wife Dee Ann (Kendall) Burgess of Greenwood, IN; four grandchildren, Whitney Cummings and her husband Kraig, Tyler Burgess and his wife Megan, Kylie Fish and her husband Tim, Kim Jung and her husband Jacob; ten great-grandchildren Emma Cummings, Molly Cummings, Lucas Cummings, Ava Jung, Hunter Jung, Khloe Jung, June Burgess, Nola Burgess, Lyra Fish, and Andrew Fish; sisters Carolyn Burgess of Indianapolis, IN, Judy Thomas and her husband Dave of Indianapolis, IN, and Neddy Marshall and her husband William “Bill” of Greenwood, IN; and a sister-in-law Libby Burgess of Danville, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Norman “Rick” Burgess; and a sister Runell Patton.
Pastor Allen Pierce will conduct a service celebrating the life of Charles Edward Burgess on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 10 A.M. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 4-8PM at the mortuary where a Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Northern Park Baptist Church, 598 North Meridian Street, Greenwood, IN, 46143.
