Obituary for Dr. Monte E. O'Connor D.D.S.

Dr. Monte E. O’Connor, D.D.S., 87, of Bargersville, IN passed away Friday, July 27, 2018. He was born March 4, 1931 in Beech Grove, IN to William E. O’Connor and Anna M. (Hajek) O’Connor. He married Helen A. (Schwomeyer) O’Connor on August 23, 1951 at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated in 1949 from Emmerich Manual High School Indianapolis, IN and then earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Butler University. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War then graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1960. He retired from his dental practice in 1996 after 36 years on the Indianapolis southside. As a long-time member of Emmaus Lutheran Church, he served on the school board and as a lay minister. He also attended Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Greenwood, IN. Additionally, his professional and personal affiliations include membership in the American Dental Association, the Perry Dental Study Club, Friends of the White River, and the Indianapolis Fly Casters Association where he had served as president. As an avid golfer and fly fisherman, he found tranquility in nature.
Survivors who love him dearly include his wife Helen A. O’Connor of Bargersville, IN; children Patricia A. O’Connor and Pamela L. O’Connor of Indianapolis, IN; Karen S. Davis (William D.) of Greenwood, IN; Perry E. O’Connor (Natalie Peck) of Greenfield, IN; four grandchildren Katie A. Blackburn (Chris) of Indianapolis, IN, Benjamin H. Davis (Tina) of Greenwood, IN, Brandon O. Davis (Amanda Williamson) of Indianapolis, IN, and Breanna J. O’Connor of Indianapolis, IN. His six great-grandchildren Kaleb, Connor, Emma, & Destiny Davis and Andrew & Aaron Blackburn call him Grandpa Hody or the Tickleator. His many nieces and nephews call him Uncle Mont. Many know him as a man of faith, humor, strength, and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Norman O’Connor.
The Reverend David Shadday will conduct a service celebrating his life on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 5171 West Smokey Row Road, in Greenwood, IN where friends may gather and share from 1:00 P.M. until the service begins. The United States Air Force Honor Guard will conclude the service with military honors.
