Barry M. Hart Sr., 79, of Franklin, IN. passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Franklin Meadows. He was born April 21, 1939 in Columbus, IN to Clyde Hart and Dorothy (Ramer) Pennington. He married Glenda J. (Downey) Hart on August 10, 1958 in Greensburg, IN, she preceded him in death on August 28, 2003.
Barry was a 1957 graduate of Columbus North High School. He had been employed for 39 years by the United States Postal Service in Columbus, IN having been a postal carrier for most of his career having retired in 1994. He later then worked for Davidson Lumber in Franklin, IN for 5 years. He and his late wife Glenda joined Southern Smiles Clown Ministries as “Pappy The Clown” and his wife “Happy The Clown” clowning at schools, hospitals, long term health care facilities, and parades for over 10 years. He attended Tabernacle Christian Church in Franklin, IN.
Survivors include his children Larry M. Hart (Beth) of Trafalgar, IN, Kelly J. Froman (Charles Jesse) of Trafalgar, IN, twins Barry M. Hart II (Lisa) of Whiteland, IN, and Marry M. Stevenson (Paul) of Trafalgar, IN; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; a sister Janet Harter of Aurora, CO; and a son-in-law Phillip Smith of Franklin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a daughter Kathy Jo Smith on May 14, 2010.
A service will be conducted by Chaplain Mark Notter at 10AM Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 4PM till 8PM at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
