Obituary for Herman J. Hatcher

Herman J.  Hatcher
Herman J. Hatcher, 88, of Avon, IN passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Manorcare Prestwick in Avon, IN. He was born February 10, 1930 in Laurel, KY to John and Angeline (Chestnut) Hatcher. He married Dorthea Evelyn Hatcher on December 28, 1951 in Lizton, IN, she preceded him in death on January 2, 2013.
Sgt. Major Hatcher proudly served 39 years, 8 months, and six days in the United States Army having served in the Korean War for three years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ in Indianapolis, IN. He enjoyed bowling, studying Civil War history, and socializing. His love for his country and family were important in his life.
Survivors include his sons Dennis J. Hatcher (Theresa) of Ashland, VA and Richard Lee Hatcher (Linda) of Indianapolis, IN; a daughter Deidre J. Cornell (Albert) of Indianapolis, IN; five grandchildren Shawn Hatcher, Andrew Hatcher, Nick Hatcher, Dustin Hatcher, and Brandi Cornell; two great-grandchildren Asa Hatcher and Abigail Hatcher; and a sister Sylvia Harrell of Mooresville, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; his sister Evodie Cotton; and two brothers Fred Hatcher and James Hatcher.
The Reverend Dale Suggs will conduct a service Monday, March 26, 2018 at 10AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 2-6PM at the mortuary. Burial with full military honors will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, IN.
