Donald W. “Bill” Settles, 87 of Franklin, IN passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, IN. He was born January 23, 1931 in Franklin, IN. to Glen Settles and Maggie M. (Ratliff) Morris. He married Mary L. (Lerchey) Settles on January 19, 1985 at Shiloh Community Church in Franklin, she survives.
He had been a tool and die maker for the Bus and Truck Group and Allison Divisions of General Motors in Indianapolis, IN for 33 years. He was a member of Christian Chapel Church in Morgantown, IN. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, and was a former member of the Liars Fishing Club. He also has coached women’s and men’s softball.
Survivors include his wife Mary L. (Lerchey) Settles of Franklin, IN; children Betty J. Frazier (Rick) of Crestview, FL, Doreen L. Mitchell (Ed) of Franklin, IN, Donald W. Settles Jr. (Ileana) of Fairfield, OH, Brian F. Settles (Chasity) of Corbin, KY, Donna M. Lanahan (Douglas T.) of Franklin, IN, Kimberly T.R. Livorno (Scott) of Franklin, IN, Melinda L. McHenry (David) of Apple Valley, CA, Stanley L. Stegner of Oregon, and Ruth L. Robison (Mike) of Missouri; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren; a brother Norman Eugene Settles; and a sister Carolyn Morris.
The Reverend Larry McAdams will conduct a service Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 11AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 4PM till 7PM at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
