Robert Ray  Ludlow
Robert Ray Ludlow, 90, of Franklin, IN formerly of Indianapolis, IN passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community. He was born June 4, 1927 in Indianapolis, IN to Walter Densil Ludlow and Bessie Luella (Meredith) Ludlow. He married Ellen DeWild Mighell on June 21, 1951 in Oswego, IL. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2015. They raised their family on the west side of Indianapolis, IN and retired to Daphne, AL for 19 years. He was a graduate of Indianapolis Washington High School and then served in the Navy/Seabees during WWII. Bob attended Butler University where he met Ellen and received his Bachelor’s ('50) and Master’s Degrees.
He retired from Indianapolis Public Schools after a 31 year career where he served as a teacher and administrator. He was Director of Guidance at Northwest High School, at Broad Ripple High School he taught various classes, was a guidance counselor and senior class sponsor, and coached wrestling and track.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, IN Free and Accepted Masons, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite, Phi Epsilon Kappa.
Bob was a man of integrity, loyalty, and kindness. His countless cherished friends were a testament to these wonderful qualities.
Besides family, his greatest passion was golf. He didn't pick up the game until college and still had a very successful collegiate career at Butler. Bob continued as one of the best golfers in the Indianapolis area winning numerous local and state events. He qualified for the USGA National Public Links 9 times from 1948-78 and finished runner-up in 1958. He shot his age regularly from his late 60's till his early 80's and had 14 career hole-in-ones, two after he turned 80.
Survivors include his children Jay Ludlow (Dee) of Plainfield, IN, Jeff Ludlow (Charlotte) of Greensburg, IN, Beth Ogren (Paul) of Minneapolis, MN; 8 grandchildren, Chris Ludlow (Courtney) of Brownsburg, IN, Katie Ball (Jeff) of Brownsburg, IN, Scott Ludlow of Jeffersonville, IN, Erin Buening (Ben) of Greensburg, IN, Tom Ludlow of Greenwood, IN, Ben Ogren (Sara) of Taos, NM, Peter Ogren of Minneapolis, MN, and Jacob Ogren of Antigua, Guatemala; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and his brother, Glenn Ludlow.
The Reverend Andy Kinsey will conduct a memorial service Monday, February 19, 2018 at 1PM at the Wright Chapel of Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community, 1070 West Jefferson Street, in Franklin, IN where the family will receive friends from 11AM till service time at the chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hall, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community, 1070 West Jefferson Street, Franklin, Indiana, 46131; or Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 East Adams Street, Franklin, IN, 46131. Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN is handling the arrangements.
