Obituary for Donald L. Shank

Dedicated public servant, loving son, brother, father and grandfather, Donald L. Shank, 75 of Franklin, IN passed away December 8, 2017 at his residence. He was born March 13, 1942 in Stones Crossing, Greenwood, IN to James C. and Martha Alma (Henderson) Shank.
Donald (aka Barney) served as a police officer for the City of Franklin, IN from August 1971 to January 1993 as a Road Officer, Sargent, Lieutenant, and Detective. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, loved fishing and woodworking, spending time with family and friends, and serving others.
Survivors include his two daughters Janie M. Keim (Stanley) of Indianapolis, Lisa D. Clark (Stan) of New Palestine, IN; seven grandchildren James “Conner” Shank of Denver, CO, Judy “Alissa” Sommers (Nick) of Greenfield, IN, Chase Clark of Indianapolis, IN, Kristen Bergman (Tony) of Savannah, GA, Amy Miller of Greenfield, IN, Leslie Gentry of Greenwood, IN, James “Tyler” Gilman of Indianapolis, IN; eight great-grandchildren, Violet Sommers, Eloise Sommers, Braydon Bergman, Brevin Bergman, Jaylin Miller, Dawn Miller, Madalyn “Maddie” Miller, Jaidyn Dotson; a great-great-grandson Bentley; a sister Marjorie Mann of Columbus, IN; brother Russell Shank (Jean) of Franklin, IN; and brother-in-law Donald R. Sullivan of Franklin, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son James Christopher Shank on September 8, 2010; a granddaughter Alexa Marie “Lexi” Shank on September 29, 2006; and a sister Mary Lou Sullivan on April 19, 2011.
A service will be conducted on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 1PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Saturday from 11AM till service time at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
