Obituary for John Waters

John Waters, 87, of Franklin, IN, formerly of Canon City, Colorado and Vincennes, Indiana, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, IN. He was born July 7, 1930 in Vincennes, IN to Kenneth M. Waters and Jeannie Fry (Reynolds) Waters. He married Mary Mae (Wallace) Waters on December 1, 1956 in Vincennes, IN, she preceded him in death on November 27, 2007.
He was a 1952 graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, IN where he was a member Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He was a member of the Vincennes First United Methodist Church, a member of Rotary Club #151 of Vincennes, IN, and Rotary Club #1153 of Canon City, CO, where he had a 52 year perfect attendance, and was a Paul Harris Fellow, Jeffersonville Masonic Lodge #340, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite, and Hadie Shrine Temple in Evansville, IN. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in Germany. He retired as Vice- President of E. Bierhaus and Son’s Company wholesale grocery supplier in Vincennes where he previously had served as produce director.
Survivors include his two sons, John M. Waters II (Kimberly) of Indianapolis, IN and David W. Waters (Kerra Erin) of Indianapolis, IN; five grandchildren, Andrew Waters (Melissa) of Denver, CO, Bret T. Waters (Maryanne) of Indianapolis, IN, Meredith G. Waters of Boston, MA, Samuel H. Waters of Indianapolis, IN, and Lydia R. Waters of Indianapolis, IN; two great-grandchildren Maxton Dean Waters and Liam Michael Waters, both of Denver, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and half-brother Kenneth Montel Waters.
A memorial gathering will take place on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 4-7PM at the Vincennes First United Methodist Church, 411 North 4th Street, Vincennes, IN. Inurnment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes, IN on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 9AM. Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, Indiana, 46131 is handling the arrangements.
