Obituary for Nannie Jean Baker

Nannie Jean Baker, 75, of Martinsville, IN, passed away October 9, 2017 at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community in Franklin, IN (Franklin United Methodist Community). She was the daughter of Woolery "Dutch" and Nannie Couch Bowling, Nannie was born March 30, 1942, in Bowlingtown (Buckhorn), Kentucky.
Nannie worked at Western Electric Company for 14 years, PR Mallory and Company in Indianapolis, IN and then returned to school to get her nursing degree and worked at Regency Place in Greenwood, IN and ManorCare Health Services in Indianapolis, IN. She was a member of the Glorious Church of God in Greenwood and Trinity Holiness Tabernacle in Franklin. She was also a longtime member of the PR Mallory Conservation Club. Nannie loved water, birds, and coffee. She also loved and cared for her family and especially enjoyed decorating and cooking for birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings.
Nannie is survived by her children, Jerome (Marilyn) Baker of Franklin, IN and Sonya Hallett of Greenwood, IN; sisters, Thelma Means of Greenwood, IN, Dorothy Willis of Plainfield, IN, and Dolly Combs of Austin, IN; grandchildren, Brandon (Natalie) Baker, Brooke Baker, and Meredith Hallett; and great-grandchildren, Hayli, Makayla, Jordan, and Taylor Baker; and 31 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and two nephews, Nannie was preceded in death by her husband Maurice Kyle Baker on February 4, 2007, whom she married on September 1, 1961, in Indianapolis, IN; son, Julius Baker in January of 1979; brothers, Lester, Fred and Garrett Bowling and sisters, Maurine Campbell and Maltie Woods.
A service will be conducted on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11:30 A.M. at Trinity Holiness Tabernacle Church, 2364 East State Road 252, Franklin, IN, 46131. Friends may call Friday, October 13, 2017 from 4-8PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and Saturday from 10AM till service time at the church. Entombment will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN.
