Glenn W. Schultz
Glenn W Schultz, 88, was born February 17, 1929 to Chet and Magdalene (Clausing) Schultz in Lima, Ohio.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen (Wilson) Schultz; brothers Bill Schultz, Dale Schultz and Tom Schultz; children Steve Schultz, Su Schultz, Karen Parker, Cheryl Schultz, Barbara McComb; grandchildren Tiffany Weir, Jared Payton, Scott Valle, Nick Valle, Leon Geddings, Angel Worsham, Shawna Graham; great-grandchildren Win Weir, Alli Weir, Reesa Weir, Cale Weir, Kaden Linton, Millie Payton, Graham Valle, Sam Valle, Sean Valle, Chazz Valle, Sophie Valle, Zoe Valle, Leland Valle, Asa Valle, Cameron Worsham, Cecilia Worsham, Shailey Graham, Cadence Graham, Slayden Graham.
He was pre-deceased by his parents; a brother Don Schultz; and son David Schultz.
At age 16 Glenn entered and served in the US Army, 596th Engr Base Dep Co, as Message Center Chief, stationed in the Philippines during WWII. He received an honorable discharge and returned to his home town and worked as a dump truck driver. Shortly thereafter he began a lifelong career as an over-the-road semi truck driver for Roadway Express. He retired after 40 years with numerous safety awards, driving well over 2 million miles and was “top man on the board” with the highest seniority at the Indianapolis terminal. He was a loyal employee and had many driver friends.
After retiring from Roadway he still had the itch to be on the road, so he drove a shuttle bus for Dollar Rental Car at Indianapolis International Airport. He ended his driving career mowing several parks in Franklin for Parks & Rec.
Glenn loved cars and for decades bought a new one every other year. He was so well known to the local Chevy dealership, if they hadn’t seen him for a year or so, they would call to let him know it was time to start shopping for his next new car. He took great care of each and every one. You never got out of the car without hearing him say “watch your doors”. Driving a new car to the Schultz/Clausing family reunion was always fun for him.
Glenn re-met Helen at their 10-year high school class reunion and they were married June 7, 1958, enjoying 59 years together. They began married life in New Whiteland, remaining there until 1991 when he retired from Roadway. They then purchased a small farm in rural Whiteland, living there for five years. Next was a new home at Franklin Lakes in Franklin. Glenn spent his days push-mowing their large yard, puttering around in the garage and chasing geese from the yard back into the pond.
He was very close to his grandchildren, Tiffany and Jared, who live nearby. Watching them grow up and begin their own families gave him great happiness. He enjoyed spending time with his great grandchildren, doing his best to make them laugh.
Most will remember his sense of humor and teasing nature. He loved seeing everyone smile and did his best to make that happen.
Glenn passed peacefully from this life September 19th, 2017, at his and Helen’s latest home at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin, IN. Helen remains there in Assisted Living.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
