Jewelene (Winchester) Lavender, 92, of Indianapolis, IN passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 27, 1924 in Cooperative, McCreary County, KY to Haney P. and Pearl M. (Bell) Winchester. She married Harold K. Lavender on August 1, 1942 in McCreary County, KY, who preceded her in death on April 5, 2004. She was a member of Whitley City Church of God in Whitley City, KY, where she was a member of the women’s ministry and prayer group. She had worked for Nilges Bakery and Bob’s Drug Store both on South East Street on Indianapolis’s Southside.
Survivors include her son Reverend Michael W. Lavender (Melinda) of Columbus, IN, daughters D. Elizabeth “Liz” McLaughlin (Robert “Bob”) of Indianapolis, IN and Patricia M. Hoffman (Richard Jr.) of Fortville, IN; eight grandchildren, Rebecca Johnson (Judd) of Ft. Wayne, IN, Reverend Dan McLaughlin (Denise) of Bargersville, IN, Timothy Cline (Mary) of Irvine, KY, Christopher Cline (Jeanna) of Greenfield, IN, Jason Lavender (Amanda) of Westport, IN, Robin Pate (Donnie) of Greenwood, IN, Stacy Avila of Trafalgar, IN, and Dana Selke (Audrey) of Evansville, IN; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Annabelle Gregory of Coopersville, KY, Helen Ross (Logan) of Revelo, KY, Jean Bloemker (Jim) of Versailles, IN; brother-in-law James Lavender of Indianapolis, IN; and sister-in- law Juanelle Cross of Indianapolis, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers Jimmy Winchester and Larry Winchester; a sister Judy Braden; an infant sister Carol Valda Winchester; and an infant great-grandson Luke Selke.
Friends may call on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 4PM till 7PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Reverend Bruce Dixon will conduct a service on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 1PM at Pine Knot Funeral Home, 140 East Cal Hill Spur Pine Knot, KY, 42635 with visitation from 11AM Saturday till service time.
