John K. "Dutch" Garriott Jr.
John K. “Dutch” Garriott Jr., 89, of Greenwood, IN passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 25, 1928 in Indianapolis, IN to John Kenneth “Dutch” Garriott Sr. and Helen Louise (Spencer) Garriott. He married Anita J. (Clayton) Garriott on November 26, 1988 in Greenwood, IN.
Dutch was a United States Army Veteran of WW II serving in the occupation of Japan. He was a member of Stones Crossing Church in Greenwood, IN and the Greenwood VFW Post. He owned and operated Spencer Plumbing, later became a project manager for Gene Glick Builders for the State of Indiana, also served as vice-president of Hoosier Coal and Oil in Indianapolis, IN and had been a real estate agent. He worked part-time in his retirement at the Otte Golf Course in Greenwood, IN when it opened. He and his wife Anita held a monthly service at Lighthouse homeless shelter for ten years, with him speaking, and her singing and playing. His favorite past time was getting out on the golf course and extensive travel in the United States and several countries. Those that knew him will remember all of his many one-liners and his story telling. More importantly was his favorite comforting words… “God Loves You and So Do I”.
Survivors include his wife Anita J. (Clayton) Garriott of Greenwood, IN; sons Kenneth Garriott (Linda) and Tom Garriott both of Indianapolis, IN; daughters Karen Raymond (Roger) of Orlando, FL, Laura Williams (Steve) and Allyson Gard (Rick) both of Greenwood, IN; ten grandchildren, Nicole Dale (Scott) of Napa Valley, CA, Jonathan Garriott of Denver, CO, Jennifer Warren (Cory) and Jessica Farmer (Chris) both of Orlando, FL., Natalie, Jared, Emily, and Eric Williams, Danielle and Abi Gard all of Greenwood, four great grandchildren Izzy, Roger, and Parker Warren and Logan Farmer, a sister Helen Whipple (Bob) of Phoenix, AZ., two nephews Dr. Dan Whipple (Libby) of Avon, IN. and Jeff Whipple (Mary) of Springfield, VA., four great nieces and three great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Reverend Scott Luck and Dr. Woodrow Church will conduct a service at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday September 16, 2017 at Stones Crossing Church, 7000 West Stones Crossing Road, in Greenwood, IN where friends may call from 11AM till service time at the church. Burial with full military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
