Obituary for Dorothy Billingsly

Dorothy Billingsly
Dorothy Billingsly, 91, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the Franklin United Methodist Community. She was born August 20, 1926 in Indianapolis, IN to Bruce and Hila (Myers) Doolin. She was raised in Marshall, Indiana in Parke County and graduated from Marshall High School there. She married James Billingsly on April 20, 1947 in Greenwood, and they were married for 63 years before he passed away on December 17, 2010. They lived their entire married life on the Billingsly family farm in Clark Township, Johnson County. She was a hard worker, helping out on the farm, gardening and cooking. She also worked outside the home at various places over the years. She had an artistic side and enjoyed singing in the church choir, cross stitching, card making and decorating wedding cakes. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to sew. But she would say her greatest lifetime achievement was her family, all of whom are following in her footsteps of Christian faith. She loved and supported them fiercely.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Keith Doolin.
Survivors include daughter, Terry (Terry) Bright of Franklin, son, Chuck (Amy) Billingsly of Greenwood, 7 grandchildren: Jennifer (Steve) Scott of Franklin, Jill (Scott) Ruddle of Whiteland, Brandi(Nathan) Shutt of Shelbyville, Bethany (Duane) Kemper of Needham, Laura (Matt) Dingman of Greenwood, Brian (Tina) Billingsly of Greenwood, Andy (Tiffany) Billingsly of Greenwood; and 26 great grand children: Jacob, Aaron, Caleb, Sarah (Scott); Benjamin, Luke, Hannah, Mary (Ruddle); Isaiah, Emma, Eli, Gabriel, Naomi, Gideon, Lydia (Shutt); Joshua, Sam, Henry, Anna (Kemper); Abigail Dingman; Rachel, Sam, Mark, Brooke, Bentley, Charlie (Billingsly).
Pastor Bill Roberts will conduct a service Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 10:30AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call Monday, September 4, 2017 from 4-7PM at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
