Obituary for Bruce W. Thompson

Bruce W. Thompson, 72, of Franklin, IN passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, IN. He was born January 8, 1945 in Edinburgh, Indiana to Robert Cluster Thompson and Margaret Elizabeth (Mathis) Thompson. He married Cheryl A. Green-Thompson on September 16, 1978 in Franklin, IN, she survives.
Bruce was a 1964 graduate of Edinburgh High School, 1968 graduate of Indiana State University, and received his master’s degree from Indiana State University in 1970. He had been a teacher at Central Nine Career Center in Greenwood and previously taught in vocational programs in Louisville, KY.
He then joined his wife at their business, Ideal Interiors, where his patience and attention to detail led to his success as a professional wallpaper hanger and master craftsman cabinet maker. Cabinet and furniture making were both his avocation and his vocation. His skill and enjoyment was evident whether he was working from someone else's plans or designing his own creation. One of his greatest enjoyments was spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife Cheryl A. Green-Thompson of Franklin, IN; three brothers David Lorenzo Thompson (Joy) of Taylorsville, IN, Lowell Ray Thompson of Edinburgh, IN, Donald John Thompson (Fran) of Greenwood, IN, step-brother Robert Caroll Mayer (Jane) of Beech Grove, IN; and the beloved uncle of several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Mary Evelyn Mayer Thompson; half-sister Suzanne Lynn Thompson; and a step-sister Alice May Allen.
Pastor Guy Langston will conduct a service celebrating the life of Bruce W. Thompson on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 7PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN where the family will receive friends from 5PM till service time at the mortuary. A private family graveside service was conducted at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
