Obituary for Michael Douglas Weathers

Michael Douglas Weathers, 78, of Franklin, IN, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family after succumbing to an abdominal/liver tumor.
He was born October 2, 1938 in Marengo, IN to Arthur Darrell Weathers and Wilma Irene (Hawkins) Weathers. He married Barbara June (Litton) Weathers on September 7, 1963 in Louisville, KY, she survives. The couple had resided in Louisville, KY; Chicago, IL; Des Moines, IA; Milwaukee, WI; Lexington, KY; Farmington, MI; Hollow Creek, KY; Blue Springs, MO; and lastly Franklin, IN.
Michael attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, with four years in Metallurgical Engineering along with two years in Personnel Management at the University Of Louisville. He had worked in personal management for over forty years having worked for the University of Louisville, Hartford Insurance, City of Lexington, KY, and retired from the state of Missouri human resources department in 2003. He was a member of Community of Christ Church in Indianapolis, IN. Michael was a man of many talents and had a variety of jobs in his life. He served in active duty in the U.S. Army Special Troops and the U.S. Army Soldiers Chorus. He also served in educational programs for the Kansas City Metropolitan College in Independence, MO. He was a talented singer and sang the Hallelujah Chorus at Carnegie Hall with a choir.
Surviving is his wife Barbara June (Litton) Weathers of Franklin, IN; a son Douglas Warren Weathers and daughter-in-law Lynn Weathers of Greenwood, IN; the proud “Grandpa” of his two grandchildren Destiny and Kadin of Greenwood, IN; a brother Patrick Warren Weathers of Depauw, IN.
Reverends Richard Renfrow and Val Brennan will conduct a service celebrating the life of Michael Douglas Weathers on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 1PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN where the family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:30AM till service time. A reception will immediately follow at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Glenn Wood Hill Campground and Retreat Center, 10747 Tide Road, Derby, IN. 47525.
