Obituary for Martha "Lorene" Stokes

Martha "Lorene" (McMurray) Stokes, 84, of Franklin, IN passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, IN. She was born February 2, 1933 in Johnson County to Marvin A. and Pearl Mae (Hardwick) McMurray. She married Charles E. Stokes on February 27, 1954, he preceded her in death on August 27, 2013.
She had worked for Arvin Automotive in Franklin, IN. Her true calling was being a wife and mother. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed her Red hat sisters, music, playing cards with friends at the Adult Active Center, crafts of all kinds, working puzzles, playing the piano, and singing. She especially enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO. to enjoy “The Duttons”, Niagara Falls and the Biltmore fascinated her. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Franklin, IN.
Survivors include her five sons, Steve Stokes, Dave Stokes (Robin), Mike Stokes (Maria), Rob Stokes (Michele), and Tony Stokes; ten grandchildren, Michael Stokes, Brian Stokes, Heather Combs (Scott), Traci Rooks (Raymond), David Stokes, Nick Stokes, Tom Stokes, Jakob Schulte, Gyllian Stokes and Carson Stokes; nine great-grandchildren, Andrea, Kyle, Ellie, Zachary, Ava, Adrian, Liam, Bryson, and Kyler; a brother Gerald McMurray; a sister Kathleen Sneed Dean (Cliff); sister-in-law Delores McMurray Barnes; and a brother-in-law Gene Biggerstaff.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother Harold McMurray; a sister Wilma Jean Biggerstaff; infant sister Patty Ann McMurray; and brother-in-law Edward Sneed.
The Reverend Fred Brown will conduct a service Friday, May 19, 2017 at 11AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 4-8PM at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
