Obituary for William F. Walker

William F.  Walker
William F. Walker, 80, lifelong Greenwood, IN resident passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, IN. He was born June 16, 1936 to Forest William Walker and Mildred “Bob” (Calvert) Walker on the Walker Family Farm in White River Township. He was a 1954 graduate of Center Grove High School and a 1958 graduate of Purdue University where he received his bachelors of science degree in poultry. He returned to the family farm where he operated Walker’s Hatchery in Greenwood, IN from 1958 until his death. He was a former member of the Board of School Trustees for the Center Grove Community School Corporation, was active in the formation of Gateway Services of Johnson County, former member of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Merit Board, former Johnson County Commissioner, former board member of Greenwood Village South, previously active in the Center Grove Bantam Football League, and was currently a member of the Johnson County Park Board. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church at Stones Crossing, Greenwood, IN. He was also a member of the Greenwood White River Rotary Club.
He married Mary Lue (Doty) Mathena Walker on July 5, 2003 in Greenwood, IN, she survives; also surviving is his son William Brian Walker and daughter-in-law Michelle (Bloomquist) Walker of Greenwood, IN; granddaughter Kaitlynn Lea Walker of Greenwood, IN; grandson William Garrett Walker of Greenwood, IN; stepsons Chuck Mathena of Whiteland, IN and Alan Mathena (Lisa) of Whiteland, IN; four step-grandchildren, Jessica Brown (Seth) of Franklin, IN, Christopher Mathena of Whiteland, IN Alison Mathena of Whiteland, IN and Kyle Mathena of Whiteland, IN; and two step-great-grandchildren Tinley Brown and Tripp Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter Lea Ann Walker on June 2, 1975.
The Reverend Ben Greenbaum will conduct a service on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10:30AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call Friday, March 17, 2017 from 4-8PM at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in White River Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Gateway Services, 3500 North Morton Street, Franklin, IN, 46131; or Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church, 3100 West Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood, IN, 46143.
