Obituary for
Jacqueline M. Salistean (Hurtut)
Jacqueline M. Salistean, (nee Hurtut) 82, of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Canton, OH, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 at Eagle Valley Meadows in Indianapolis, IN. She was born September 8, 1934 in Villerupt, France to Albert Joseph Hurtut and Georgette Albertine (nee Boehm) Hurtut.
Growing up in the Hurtut Family, she was exposed to the visual arts by both her parents, but particularly her father Albert, who had an intense passion for drawing and painting and who eventually became a well-known artist in his own right. While growing up during World War II, Jacqueline quickly demonstrated her own artistic talents and abilities in drawing, painting, and sculpture (she would later study these at Youngstown State University), she also followed her father's passion for aviation and in 1952, at the age of 18, became France's youngest female pilot. As she entered her 20's she became a translator for the American Government and at that time met an American, Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas B. Salistean, a physician stationed in Verdun whom she married in June 1956. They resided in Verdun until moving to Poland OH, USA in 1960 with their two sons Daniel and Christian. In 1964 they had a daughter Annnette. In 1968 the family moved to Canton, OH where they resided for the remainder of their lives together. In 1979 Jacqueline resumed her love of flying, which she had stopped earlier to raise her family. She acquired her private pilot license with Instrument rating. Nicholas passed away in 1990, and in 2006 Jacqueline moved to Indianapolis, IN to live close to her son Christian.
She leaves behind her children, Daniel of Margate Florida, Christian of Indianapolis, IN, Annette of South Florida; and her niece Diane Inglin and husband Peter of Pepper Pike, OH.
