Obituary for Brenda L. Burkhart

Brenda L. (Cornelius) Burkhart, 68, of Morgantown, IN and lifelong resident of Johnson County passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at her residence. She was born March 15, 1948 in Franklin, IN to Wilbur and Lela Ruth (Fritche) Cornelius.
She married Dana W. Burkhart on June 17, 1995 at their home in Morgantown, IN, he preceded her in death. She attended grade school at Hopewell School and was a 1966 graduate of Franklin Community High School. She had been a banker in Johnson County for 35 years having recently retired in 2015 from First Farmers Bank in Bargersville, IN. She previously had been associated with Bank of Indiana, Main Source Bank, First Community Bank, Bargersville Savings and Loan, and Bargersville State Bank. She was a member of First Christian Church in Bargersville, IN; Franklin and Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, and was a board member of the Bargersville Main Street Group to revitalize downtown. She enjoyed painting and spending time with her family, grandkids and spoiling the great-grandchildren. Her greatest accomplishment was to be a great grandmother.
Survivors include her daughter Kelley Renae Wray (Todd) of Morgantown, IN; a step-daughter Annie Burkhart of Franklin, IN; four grandchildren, Amanda L. Hammonds (James) of Brandenburg, KY, Ashley Kernodle of Morgantown, IN, Michael Kernodle Jr. of Franklin, IN, and Matthew Wray of Columbus, OH; five great-grandchildren, Ellie Law, Hunter Humphrey, Aylin McCawley, Scarlet Hammonds, and expecting a great-granddaughter in April 2017; her sister Margaret Woodard of Avon, IN; and her two four-legged friends Benji and Angel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dana W. Burkhart; son Ronald R. Thompson on May 28, 2016; a step-son Eric Burkhart, and a sister Anita Brewer.
The Reverend Ken Rickett will conduct a service on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Friday, February 3, 2017 from 4-8PM at the mortuary. Burial will be in First Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
