Mary Catherine Milhouse Hauswald, 81, of the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin, IN passed away Friday, August 26, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital. She was born on December 24, 1934 to Paul and Frances (Noblitt) Milhouse in Paxton, Illinois. She graduated from Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and from the University of Indianapolis. She moved with her husband, Dr. Ronald Hauswald, to New Albany, Indiana in 1959 and lived there until they moved to Franklin, Indiana in 2010. She was very active in Silver Street United Methodist Church in New Albany, serving as accompanist and director of three choirs at the church for a total of 33 years, and also served in various other capacities in the life of the church. For 18 years she served as a Trustee of the United Methodist Children’s Home in Lebanon, Indiana, and for 8 years she served on the New Albany Floyd County Board of School Trustees. She was also a Board Member of United Charities, and served as President of the New Albany District United Methodist Women. She was a current member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin
On June 12, 1955, she married Ronald L Hauswald, who survives. They have three children: Gregory Hauswald (Pam) of Brownsburg, Indiana; Jeffrey Hauswald (Kathryn) of Omaha, Nebraska and Carol Wietholter (Kyle) of Zionsville, Indiana. They have 7 grandchildren: Ross Hauswald (Jamie) of Columbus, Indiana; Megan Calfee (Tyler) of Omaha, Nebraska; Paul Hauswald (Krista) of Brownsburg, Indiana; Ashleigh Ringle (Tyler) of Waterloo, Nebraska; Sarah Tribbett (Seth) of Indianapolis; and Michael and Eric Wietholter of Zionsville, Indiana. Additionally, they have six great-grandchildren with two more arriving before year’s end. Mary is also survived by a sister, Pauline Vermillion (Arthur) of Indianapolis, and a brother, David Milhouse (Martha) of Franklin, Indiana.
The Reverends Jerry Rairdon and Jenothy Rather will conduct a memorial service celebrating the life of Mary on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 4 pm at Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 East Adams Street, Franklin, IN 46131. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 2 preceding the service from 2 - 4 pm at the church. Inurnment will be in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in New Albany, IN. Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin is handling the arrangements.
