Obituary for Troy G. Dougherty

Troy G.  Dougherty
Troy G. Dougherty, 93, of Needham, IN. passed away Sunday April 10th in Franklin, IN. He was born July 29, 1922 at the family residence in Clark Township, Johnson County to Clarence and Mayme (Young) Dougherty. He married Norma J. (Mitchell) Dougherty on January 22, 1955 at Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, IN, she survives.
He was a 1940 graduate of Clark Township High School. He was a lifelong resident of Clark Township and spent his entire life farming in the community. He was a member of Rocklane Christian Church since 1938 where he served as deacon, committee member, and chairman. He was a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau and the Johnson County Beef Cattle Association. He received an honorary degree from the Future Farmers of America and was a Kentucky Colonel. He and his wife enjoyed traveling all fifty of the United States except Hawaii.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Norma J. (Mitchell) Dougherty of Needham, IN; two sons Thomas A. Dougherty (Amy) of Needham, IN, George A. Dougherty (Carmen) of Boggstown, IN; two brothers, M. Dale Dougherty (Patricia) of Indianapolis, IN, Alton Dougherty (Margaret) of Clark Township; five grandchildren, Justin Dougherty (Susan) of Lafayette, IN, Lauren Shanks (Brandon) of Schererville, IN, Kelsey Ferrel (Andrew) of Frankfort, IN, Jaclyn Dougherty of Indianapolis, IN, and Lucas Dougherty of Boggstown, IN; five great-grandchildren Noah and Caleb Dougherty, Anna and Alice Shanks, and Reese Ferrel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Floyd Dougherty, M. Earl Dougherty, and two sisters, Lucile Wheeler and Margaret Tilson.
The Reverend Seth Amerine will conduct a service Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 10AM at Rocklane Christian Church, 4430 Rocklane Road, Greenwood, IN. Friends may call Wednesday, April 13, 2016 4-8PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 9AM until service time at the church. Burial will be in Rocklane Cemetery in Greenwood. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Rocklane Christian Church, 4430 Rocklane Road Greenwood, IN, 46143.
