Marilynn "Lynn" Tandy Ray (Henry)
Marilynn “Lynn” (Henry) Tandy Ray 81 a resident of the Franklin United Methodist Community passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis. She was born in Duluth, MN. on March 7, 1934 to Stanley V. and Edna (Ward) Henry, the last of their eight children. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings, her daughter in law Kathy Tandy, grandson Charlie Tandy, and great grandson Trenton Tandy.
Lynn graduated June 6, 1952 from Denfeld High School in Duluth, MN., where she was in the top three percent of her class and where she was editor and chief of the school yearbook. She later moved to Indianapolis where she met and married Louis N. Tandy on July 31, 1955, he preceded her in death on August 6, 1972. On August 18, 1979 she married the Reverend James L. Ray, who preceded her in death on March 9, 2010.
She is survived by her children Christopher L. Tandy of Camby, Lisa Tandy of Greencastle, Tamara L. Rice of Mooresville, Douglas R. Tandy (wife Janice) of Indianapolis. Also surviving are step children David L. Ray (wife Vicki) of Indianapolis, Rachel Ray Cleveland (husband Scott) of Beltsville, Maryland, nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin and a former member of West Newton United Methodist Church. Above all else, Lynn cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Lynn was an avid reader and enjoyed the challenge of study. She especially enjoyed tutoring as well as several other volunteer activities. Lynn was recently elected President of the Franklin United Methodist Community “Community Council” and was a member of the FUMC Board of Trustees.
A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 2 PM at the Wright Chapel of the Franklin United Methodist Community 1070 West Jefferson Street in Franklin with the Reverend Andy Kinsey, Reverend Jenothy Rather, and Reverend David Mark Owens officiating. The family will greet guests from 12 Noon Saturday till service time at the Wright Chapel.
Lynn’s wishes were to have her body donated to the Anatomical Education Program of the Indiana University School of Medicine. Her urn will be placed in the Columbarium at Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church 1300 East Adams Street Franklin, Indiana 46131 or to the Franklin United Methodist Community 1070 West Jefferson Street Franklin, Indiana 46131.
