Obituary for Samuel Kemp Sr.

Samuel Kemp Sr. 83, of Trafalgar, IN, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016 at his residence. He was born April 10, 1932 in Daviess County, Indiana to Silas and Rosa (Graber) Kemp. He married Edith A. (Grass) Kemp, she preceded him in death in April of 2000. He then married Gaye M. (Wilson) Kemp on May 17, 2002 in Trafalgar, IN, she survives.
He attended Oden High School. He had been a plumber for Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for thirty-six years. Also was a longtime farmer in Johnson County and owned and operated Sam Kemp Plumbing. He was a former fair board member of the Johnson County 4-H and Agricultural Fair. He was a longtime horse breeder and showed horses competitively all across the country. He enjoyed the rural life style.
Survivors include his wife Gaye M. (Wilson) Kemp of Trafalgar, IN; son Samuel Lee (Katelynn) Kemp of Franklin, IN; grandson Cooper Lee Kemp of Franklin, IN; children Nicholas Studebaker (Stephanie) of Bargersville, IN, Kelli Lynn Spivey (Nick) of Trafalgar, IN; grandchildren Byron, Alysa, Caleigh “Coco”, Daelin, James, Aaron, and Jack; sisters Rose Smelser of Columbus, OH, Katherine Hockstedler Yoder (Bob) of Shipshewana, IN, and Fanny Marie Harvey of Kokomo, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Edith A. (Grass) Kemp.
The Reverend Jarvis Hochstedler will conduct a service Friday, March 4, 2016 at 10AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Thursday, March 3, 2016 from 4-8PM at the mortuary. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN.
