Obituary for Ray D. Esteb

Ray D. Esteb, 83, of Whiteland, Indiana and a lifelong farmer of Johnson County, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 surrounded by his family at his residence. He was born on March 5, 1931 to Ralph and Elsie (Beckner) Esteb in Marion County, Indiana. He married Joann (Catt) Esteb on October 12, 1952 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Franklin; she survives. He was a 1949 graduate of Whiteland High School. He was a longtime member of Greenwood United Methodist Church and current member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Franklin, Indiana. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization, a former member of the Johnson County Fair Board and served for over 20 years on the Greenwood Cemetery Board. He was a lifelong farmer with his family in Johnson County. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife Joann (Catt) Esteb of Whiteland; daughter Donna McElwain (Michael) of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sons David Esteb (Janet) of Franklin and Rob Esteb (friend Lora McKee) of Needham, Indiana; three grandchildren Brian Esteb (Melissa) of Franklin, Jill Hockemeyer (Chad) of Columbia City, Indiana and Shawn Esteb of Greenwood; two great-grandchildren Catelynn Hockemeyer and Cortney Hockemeyer; and two sisters Lucy Mae Hogue of Franklin and Eveleyn Crouch of Winter Park, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Ray Donald Esteb II on July 27, 1967; and siblings infant brother Ralph Esteb, Charles Esteb, Mary Alice Glaze, John Esteb, and Faye Sisson.
Reverend Brad K. Moger will conduct a service on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 1:30 P.M. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 S. Morton Street (US 31) in Franklin. Friends may call Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 2 P.M. until 8 P.M. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
