Obituary for Helen M. Utterback (Walker)

Helen Marie (Walker) Utterback, 90, of Fairland, Indiana passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was born July 18, 1922 in Nineveh, Indiana to Percy Lavant Walker and Hesper Mae (Clark) Walker. She married Lowell C. Utterback on October 13, 1945 in Martinsville, Indiana; he preceded her in death on March 13, 2003. She was a 1940 graduate of Trafalgar High School where she was Vice-President and Valid Victorian of her graduating class. She was an 84 year member of Trafalgar Christian Church, where she had served as treasurer, Sunday School teacher and several other various positions of the church. During World War II, she worked at the famous Woolworth’s Department Store in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. Following her marriage to Lowell Utterback, she worked with her brother Chauncey and his wife, Rosie, at the Trafalgar Drug Store. She then spent 33 years working at the United States Post Office in Trafalgar, Indiana.
Survivors include her son Richard Lyn Utterback (Teresa) of Fairland; three grandchildren, Jennifer Davis (Matthew) of Indianapolis, Ryan Utterback (Aimee) of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Kimberly Utterback of Indianapolis; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Davis, Christopher Davis, Gavin Utterback, Dylan Utterback, and a fifth great-grandson due in August; and a brother, Richard “Bud” Walker (Earline) of Nineveh, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Chauncey Walker and Dale Walker, and sister Mary Burris.
The Reverend Doug Davis will conduct a service Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 11 A.M. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary And Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, Indiana. Friends may call Monday, May 6, 2013 from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
